Profiles in Leadership: Podcast with Stacy Menz

Today, Steve Anderson, PT, DPT, sits down with Stacy Menz, PT, DPT, PCS. Stacy is the founder of Starfish Therapies in San Francisco. She received her masters from Boston University in 2000, and her doctorate in physical therapy from there in 2005. She has served as a teaching assistant for the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program for Boston University, and is a certified clinical instructor through the APTA. She also serves as the Managing Editor of Impact Magazine.

In today’s session, Stacy discusses the following with Steve:

  • The importance of authenticity, both in pursuing the type of career you want as well as how you interact with patients.
  • The difference between being a child-focused vs. an adult-focused practice.
  • Additional challenges and opportunities that occur in a pediatric clinic.
  • How collaborating with those who should be your competitors can actually help the patients in the long-run.
  • How a support network, including employees, can assist in getting through the tough times.
  • Recognizing achievements instead of looking at the obstacles.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions; you don’t know what you don’t know.
  • Stacy’s Pearl of Wisdom is: It’s only a mistake if it happens again.
